SUMMARY:Bird Walk at Sondekoppa Lake\, Bangalore
DESCRIPTION:Bird Walk at Poomala Dam\, Thrissur\, Kerala \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Thrissur\n \n \n \n \n 22 March\, 2026\n \n \n \n \n Syam Sukumaran\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About Poomala Dam \n \n \n \n Poomala Dam\, located about 12 km from Thrissur city in Kerala\, is a serene freshwater reservoir spread across roughly 5 square kilometers\, framed by gently rolling hills and lush greenery. Built across the Poomala River\, this scenic dam creates a mosaic of open water\, marshy edges\, grasslands\, and patches of moist deciduous vegetation typical of Kerala’s midland landscape. Coconut palms\, bamboo clumps\, shrubs\, and seasonal wildflowers add texture to the surroundings\, while the calm waters support fish\, amphibians\, dragonflies\, and small mammals. The mix of aquatic and semi-forested habitats makes Poomala not just a picnic destination\, but a thriving ecological pocket where nature flourishes quietly alongside tourism. \n \n \n \n For birdwatchers\, Poomala Dam offers rewarding sightings throughout the year. Waterbirds such as herons\, egrets\, cormorants\, and kingfishers are commonly seen along the shoreline\, while winter brings migratory ducks and wagtails to the reservoir. The surrounding trees and scrub host bulbuls\, sunbirds\, drongos\, woodpeckers\, and raptors that patrol the skies above the hills. Early mornings and late afternoons are especially magical\, when the still waters reflect flocks in flight. However\, increasing tourism pressure\, littering\, boating disturbances\, and gradual habitat modification pose challenges to the dam’s ecological balance. Sustainable visitor management\, protection of shoreline vegetation\, and community awareness are essential to ensure that Poomala remains both a scenic getaway and a safe haven for Kerala’s vibrant birdlife. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Partnered with \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Bird Guide - Syam SukumaranHe is an experienced bird guide with over 10 years of birdwatching and photography\, specialising in wetland birds and with strong expertise in raptors. A regular traveller across the green landscapes of South India\, he brings solid regional knowledge and an engaging\, field-based approach to birding. \n \n \n \n \n \n Bird walk Location \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Common birds of Poomala Dam \n \n \n \n Poomala Dam in Thrissur is a vibrant birding destination with around 106 recorded species\, where wetlands and wooded slopes create a lively avian stage throughout the year. The reservoir often hosts flocks of Lesser Whistling Ducks\, elegant Grey Herons\, Little Egrets\, Cattle Egrets\, and Pond Herons\, while the shallow edges are patrolled by Red-wattled Lapwings and graceful Pheasant-tailed and Bronze-winged Jacanas. The striking Oriental Darter can sometimes be seen drying its wings along the banks. In the surrounding trees\, birders may spot the dramatic Crested Honey Buzzard\, the colorful Indian Pitta during migration\, and the brilliant flashes of Chestnut-headed\, Green\, and Blue-tailed Bee-eaters. Woodland patches echo with the calls of Greater Flamebacks\, Racket-tailed Drongos\, and other drongos\, while smaller favorites like Tailorbirds\, Magpie Robins\, Red-vented Bulbuls\, and White-browed Bulbuls add constant movement and melody. Together\, these species make Poomala Dam not just a scenic retreat\, but a dynamic hotspot for bird lovers in central Kerala. \n \n \n \n \n Lesser Whistling Duck \n \n \n \n Pheasant-tailed Jacana \n \n \n \n Indian Pitta \n \n \n \n Little Egret \n \n \n \n Eastern Cattle - Egret \n \n \n \n Oriental Honey Buzzard \n \n \n \n Grey Heron \n \n \n \n Common Tailorbird \n \n \n \n Indian Pond Heron \n \n \n \n Greater Racket-tailed Drongo \n \n \n \n Chestnut-headed Bee-Eater \n \n \n \n Hoopoe \n \n \n \n Blue-tailed Bee-Eater \n \n \n \n Bronze-winged Jacana \n \n \n \n Black Drongo \n \n \n \n Oriental Magpie Robin \n \n \n \n Asian Green Bee-eater \n \n \n \n Red-vented Bulbul \n \n \n \n Oriental Darter \n \n \n \n Red-wattled Lapwing \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Summary of Walk \n \n \n \n At Poomala Dam in Thrissur\, Syam Sukumaran led ten participants through a lively and fulfilling birding session\, recording 44 species. The landscape\, with its mix of water bodies and surrounding greenery\, offered excellent opportunities to observe a wide range of birdlife. Highlights included the elusive Indian Pitta\, the elegant Black-naped Monarch\, and the vibrant Tickell’s Blue Flycatcher\, along with multiple drongo species that added to the excitement. \n \n \n \n Many participants already had some familiarity with common birds\, which allowed for deeper discussions and more refined observations. Several birders recorded 10–15 lifers\, making the experience particularly rewarding. The combination of strong sightings\, active participation\, and shared enthusiasm created a positive and memorable outing\, leaving participants both satisfied and eager for future birding experiences. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Number of Participants \n \n 0

SUMMARY:Bird Walk at Love Kush Vatika\, Dholpur\, Rajasthan
DESCRIPTION:Bird Walk at Poomala Dam\, Thrissur\, Kerala \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Thrissur\n \n \n \n \n 22 March\, 2026\n \n \n \n \n Syam Sukumaran\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About Poomala Dam \n \n \n \n Poomala Dam\, located about 12 km from Thrissur city in Kerala\, is a serene freshwater reservoir spread across roughly 5 square kilometers\, framed by gently rolling hills and lush greenery. Built across the Poomala River\, this scenic dam creates a mosaic of open water\, marshy edges\, grasslands\, and patches of moist deciduous vegetation typical of Kerala’s midland landscape. Coconut palms\, bamboo clumps\, shrubs\, and seasonal wildflowers add texture to the surroundings\, while the calm waters support fish\, amphibians\, dragonflies\, and small mammals. The mix of aquatic and semi-forested habitats makes Poomala not just a picnic destination\, but a thriving ecological pocket where nature flourishes quietly alongside tourism. \n \n \n \n For birdwatchers\, Poomala Dam offers rewarding sightings throughout the year. Waterbirds such as herons\, egrets\, cormorants\, and kingfishers are commonly seen along the shoreline\, while winter brings migratory ducks and wagtails to the reservoir. The surrounding trees and scrub host bulbuls\, sunbirds\, drongos\, woodpeckers\, and raptors that patrol the skies above the hills. Early mornings and late afternoons are especially magical\, when the still waters reflect flocks in flight. However\, increasing tourism pressure\, littering\, boating disturbances\, and gradual habitat modification pose challenges to the dam’s ecological balance. Sustainable visitor management\, protection of shoreline vegetation\, and community awareness are essential to ensure that Poomala remains both a scenic getaway and a safe haven for Kerala’s vibrant birdlife. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Partnered with \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Bird Guide - Syam SukumaranHe is an experienced bird guide with over 10 years of birdwatching and photography\, specialising in wetland birds and with strong expertise in raptors. A regular traveller across the green landscapes of South India\, he brings solid regional knowledge and an engaging\, field-based approach to birding. \n \n \n \n \n \n Bird walk Location \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Common birds of Poomala Dam \n \n \n \n Poomala Dam in Thrissur is a vibrant birding destination with around 106 recorded species\, where wetlands and wooded slopes create a lively avian stage throughout the year. The reservoir often hosts flocks of Lesser Whistling Ducks\, elegant Grey Herons\, Little Egrets\, Cattle Egrets\, and Pond Herons\, while the shallow edges are patrolled by Red-wattled Lapwings and graceful Pheasant-tailed and Bronze-winged Jacanas. The striking Oriental Darter can sometimes be seen drying its wings along the banks. In the surrounding trees\, birders may spot the dramatic Crested Honey Buzzard\, the colorful Indian Pitta during migration\, and the brilliant flashes of Chestnut-headed\, Green\, and Blue-tailed Bee-eaters. Woodland patches echo with the calls of Greater Flamebacks\, Racket-tailed Drongos\, and other drongos\, while smaller favorites like Tailorbirds\, Magpie Robins\, Red-vented Bulbuls\, and White-browed Bulbuls add constant movement and melody. Together\, these species make Poomala Dam not just a scenic retreat\, but a dynamic hotspot for bird lovers in central Kerala. \n \n \n \n \n Lesser Whistling Duck \n \n \n \n Pheasant-tailed Jacana \n \n \n \n Indian Pitta \n \n \n \n Little Egret \n \n \n \n Eastern Cattle - Egret \n \n \n \n Oriental Honey Buzzard \n \n \n \n Grey Heron \n \n \n \n Common Tailorbird \n \n \n \n Indian Pond Heron \n \n \n \n Greater Racket-tailed Drongo \n \n \n \n Chestnut-headed Bee-Eater \n \n \n \n Hoopoe \n \n \n \n Blue-tailed Bee-Eater \n \n \n \n Bronze-winged Jacana \n \n \n \n Black Drongo \n \n \n \n Oriental Magpie Robin \n \n \n \n Asian Green Bee-eater \n \n \n \n Red-vented Bulbul \n \n \n \n Oriental Darter \n \n \n \n Red-wattled Lapwing \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Summary of Walk \n \n \n \n At Poomala Dam in Thrissur\, Syam Sukumaran led ten participants through a lively and fulfilling birding session\, recording 44 species. The landscape\, with its mix of water bodies and surrounding greenery\, offered excellent opportunities to observe a wide range of birdlife. Highlights included the elusive Indian Pitta\, the elegant Black-naped Monarch\, and the vibrant Tickell’s Blue Flycatcher\, along with multiple drongo species that added to the excitement. \n \n \n \n Many participants already had some familiarity with common birds\, which allowed for deeper discussions and more refined observations. Several birders recorded 10–15 lifers\, making the experience particularly rewarding. SUMMARY:Bird walk at Ram - Mula Confluence and Devrai\, Pune\, Maharashtra
DESCRIPTION:Bird Walk at Poomala Dam\, Thrissur\, Kerala \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Thrissur\n \n \n \n \n 22 March\, 2026\n \n \n \n \n Syam Sukumaran\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About Poomala Dam \n \n \n \n Poomala Dam\, located about 12 km from Thrissur city in Kerala\, is a serene freshwater reservoir spread across roughly 5 square kilometers\, framed by gently rolling hills and lush greenery. Built across the Poomala River\, this scenic dam creates a mosaic of open water\, marshy edges\, grasslands\, and patches of moist deciduous vegetation typical of Kerala’s midland landscape. Coconut palms\, bamboo clumps\, shrubs\, and seasonal wildflowers add texture to the surroundings\, while the calm waters support fish\, amphibians\, dragonflies\, and small mammals. The mix of aquatic and semi-forested habitats makes Poomala not just a picnic destination\, but a thriving ecological pocket where nature flourishes quietly alongside tourism. \n \n \n \n For birdwatchers\, Poomala Dam offers rewarding sightings throughout the year. Waterbirds such as herons\, egrets\, cormorants\, and kingfishers are commonly seen along the shoreline\, while winter brings migratory ducks and wagtails to the reservoir. The surrounding trees and scrub host bulbuls\, sunbirds\, drongos\, woodpeckers\, and raptors that patrol the skies above the hills. Early mornings and late afternoons are especially magical\, when the still waters reflect flocks in flight. However\, increasing tourism pressure\, littering\, boating disturbances\, and gradual habitat modification pose challenges to the dam’s ecological balance. Sustainable visitor management\, protection of shoreline vegetation\, and community awareness are essential to ensure that Poomala remains both a scenic getaway and a safe haven for Kerala’s vibrant birdlife. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Partnered with \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Bird Guide - Syam SukumaranHe is an experienced bird guide with over 10 years of birdwatching and photography\, specialising in wetland birds and with strong expertise in raptors. A regular traveller across the green landscapes of South India\, he brings solid regional knowledge and an engaging\, field-based approach to birding. \n \n \n \n \n \n Bird walk Location \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Common birds of Poomala Dam \n \n \n \n Poomala Dam in Thrissur is a vibrant birding destination with around 106 recorded species\, where wetlands and wooded slopes create a lively avian stage throughout the year. The reservoir often hosts flocks of Lesser Whistling Ducks\, elegant Grey Herons\, Little Egrets\, Cattle Egrets\, and Pond Herons\, while the shallow edges are patrolled by Red-wattled Lapwings and graceful Pheasant-tailed and Bronze-winged Jacanas. The striking Oriental Darter can sometimes be seen drying its wings along the banks. In the surrounding trees\, birders may spot the dramatic Crested Honey Buzzard\, the colorful Indian Pitta during migration\, and the brilliant flashes of Chestnut-headed\, Green\, and Blue-tailed Bee-eaters. Woodland patches echo with the calls of Greater Flamebacks\, Racket-tailed Drongos\, and other drongos\, while smaller favorites like Tailorbirds\, Magpie Robins\, Red-vented Bulbuls\, and White-browed Bulbuls add constant movement and melody. Together\, these species make Poomala Dam not just a scenic retreat\, but a dynamic hotspot for bird lovers in central Kerala. \n \n \n \n \n Lesser Whistling Duck \n \n \n \n Pheasant-tailed Jacana \n \n \n \n Indian Pitta \n \n \n \n Little Egret \n \n \n \n Eastern Cattle - Egret \n \n \n \n Oriental Honey Buzzard \n \n \n \n Grey Heron \n \n \n \n Common Tailorbird \n \n \n \n Indian Pond Heron \n \n \n \n Greater Racket-tailed Drongo \n \n \n \n Chestnut-headed Bee-Eater \n \n \n \n Hoopoe \n \n \n \n Blue-tailed Bee-Eater \n \n \n \n Bronze-winged Jacana \n \n \n \n Black Drongo \n \n \n \n Oriental Magpie Robin \n \n \n \n Asian Green Bee-eater \n \n \n \n Red-vented Bulbul \n \n \n \n Oriental Darter \n \n \n \n Red-wattled Lapwing \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Summary of Walk \n \n \n \n At Poomala Dam in Thrissur\, Syam Sukumaran led ten participants through a lively and fulfilling birding session\, recording 44 species. The landscape\, with its mix of water bodies and surrounding greenery\, offered excellent opportunities to observe a wide range of birdlife. Highlights included the elusive Indian Pitta\, the elegant Black-naped Monarch\, and the vibrant Tickell’s Blue Flycatcher\, along with multiple drongo species that added to the excitement. \n \n \n \n Many participants already had some familiarity with common birds\, which allowed for deeper discussions and more refined observations. Several birders recorded 10–15 lifers\, making the experience particularly rewarding. The combination of strong sightings\, active participation\, and shared enthusiasm created a positive and memorable outing\, leaving participants both satisfied and eager for future birding experiences. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Number of Participants \n \n 0

SUMMARY:Bird Walk at Kaliyasota Dam View Point\, Bhopal\, MP
The reservoir often hosts flocks of Lesser Whistling Ducks\, elegant Grey Herons\, Little Egrets\, Cattle Egrets\, and Pond Herons\, while the shallow edges are patrolled by Red-wattled Lapwings and graceful Pheasant-tailed and Bronze-winged Jacanas. The striking Oriental Darter can sometimes be seen drying its wings along the banks. In the surrounding trees\, birders may spot the dramatic Crested Honey Buzzard\, the colorful Indian Pitta during migration\, and the brilliant flashes of Chestnut-headed\, Green\, and Blue-tailed Bee-eaters. Woodland patches echo with the calls of Greater Flamebacks\, Racket-tailed Drongos\, and other drongos\, while smaller favorites like Tailorbirds\, Magpie Robins\, Red-vented Bulbuls\, and White-browed Bulbuls add constant movement and melody. Together\, these species make Poomala Dam not just a scenic retreat\, but a dynamic hotspot for bird lovers in central Kerala. \n \n \n \n \n Lesser Whistling Duck \n \n \n \n Pheasant-tailed Jacana \n \n \n \n Indian Pitta \n \n \n \n Little Egret \n \n \n \n Eastern Cattle - Egret \n \n \n \n Oriental Honey Buzzard \n \n \n \n Grey Heron \n \n \n \n Common Tailorbird \n \n \n \n Indian Pond Heron \n \n \n \n Greater Racket-tailed Drongo \n \n \n \n Chestnut-headed Bee-Eater \n \n \n \n Hoopoe \n \n \n \n Blue-tailed Bee-Eater \n \n \n \n Bronze-winged Jacana \n \n \n \n Black Drongo \n \n \n \n Oriental Magpie Robin \n \n \n \n Asian Green Bee-eater \n \n \n \n Red-vented Bulbul \n \n \n \n Oriental Darter \n \n \n \n Red-wattled Lapwing \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Summary of Walk \n \n \n \n At Poomala Dam in Thrissur\, Syam Sukumaran led ten participants through a lively and fulfilling birding session\, recording 44 species. The reservoir often hosts flocks of Lesser Whistling Ducks\, elegant Grey Herons\, Little Egrets\, Cattle Egrets\, and Pond Herons\, while the shallow edges are patrolled by Red-wattled Lapwings and graceful Pheasant-tailed and Bronze-winged Jacanas. The striking Oriental Darter can sometimes be seen drying its wings along the banks. In the surrounding trees\, birders may spot the dramatic Crested Honey Buzzard\, the colorful Indian Pitta during migration\, and the brilliant flashes of Chestnut-headed\, Green\, and Blue-tailed Bee-eaters. Woodland patches echo with the calls of Greater Flamebacks\, Racket-tailed Drongos\, and other drongos\, while smaller favorites like Tailorbirds\, Magpie Robins\, Red-vented Bulbuls\, and White-browed Bulbuls add constant movement and melody. Together\, these species make Poomala Dam not just a scenic retreat\, but a dynamic hotspot for bird lovers in central Kerala. \n \n \n \n \n Lesser Whistling Duck \n \n \n \n Pheasant-tailed Jacana \n \n \n \n Indian Pitta \n \n \n \n Little Egret \n \n \n \n Eastern Cattle - Egret \n \n \n \n Oriental Honey Buzzard \n \n \n \n Grey Heron \n \n \n \n Common Tailorbird \n \n \n \n Indian Pond Heron \n \n \n \n Greater Racket-tailed Drongo \n \n \n \n Chestnut-headed Bee-Eater \n \n \n \n Hoopoe \n \n \n \n Blue-tailed Bee-Eater \n \n \n \n Bronze-winged Jacana \n \n \n \n Black Drongo \n \n \n \n Oriental Magpie Robin \n \n \n \n Asian Green Bee-eater \n \n \n \n Red-vented Bulbul \n \n \n \n Oriental Darter \n \n \n \n Red-wattled Lapwing \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Summary of Walk \n \n \n \n At Poomala Dam in Thrissur\, Syam Sukumaran led ten participants through a lively and fulfilling birding session\, recording 44 species. The landscape\, with its mix of water bodies and surrounding greenery\, offered excellent opportunities to observe a wide range of birdlife. Highlights included the elusive Indian Pitta\, the elegant Black-naped Monarch\, and the vibrant Tickell’s Blue Flycatcher\, along with multiple drongo species that added to the excitement. \n \n \n \n Many participants already had some familiarity with common birds\, which allowed for deeper discussions and more refined observations. Several birders recorded 10–15 lifers\, making the experience particularly rewarding. The reservoir often hosts flocks of Lesser Whistling Ducks\, elegant Grey Herons\, Little Egrets\, Cattle Egrets\, and Pond Herons\, while the shallow edges are patrolled by Red-wattled Lapwings and graceful Pheasant-tailed and Bronze-winged Jacanas. The striking Oriental Darter can sometimes be seen drying its wings along the banks. In the surrounding trees\, birders may spot the dramatic Crested Honey Buzzard\, the colorful Indian Pitta during migration\, and the brilliant flashes of Chestnut-headed\, Green\, and Blue-tailed Bee-eaters. Woodland patches echo with the calls of Greater Flamebacks\, Racket-tailed Drongos\, and other drongos\, while smaller favorites like Tailorbirds\, Magpie Robins\, Red-vented Bulbuls\, and White-browed Bulbuls add constant movement and melody. Together\, these species make Poomala Dam not just a scenic retreat\, but a dynamic hotspot for bird lovers in central Kerala. \n \n \n \n \n Lesser Whistling Duck \n \n \n \n Pheasant-tailed Jacana \n \n \n \n Indian Pitta \n \n \n \n Little Egret \n \n \n \n Eastern Cattle - Egret \n \n \n \n Oriental Honey Buzzard \n \n \n \n Grey Heron \n \n \n \n Common Tailorbird \n \n \n \n Indian Pond Heron \n \n \n \n Greater Racket-tailed Drongo \n \n \n \n Chestnut-headed Bee-Eater \n \n \n \n Hoopoe \n \n \n \n Blue-tailed Bee-Eater \n \n \n \n Bronze-winged Jacana \n \n \n \n Black Drongo \n \n \n \n Oriental Magpie Robin \n \n \n \n Asian Green Bee-eater \n \n \n \n Red-vented Bulbul \n \n \n \n Oriental Darter \n \n \n \n Red-wattled Lapwing \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Summary of Walk \n \n \n \n At Poomala Dam in Thrissur\, Syam Sukumaran led ten participants through a lively and fulfilling birding session\, recording 44 species. The reservoir often hosts flocks of Lesser Whistling Ducks\, elegant Grey Herons\, Little Egrets\, Cattle Egrets\, and Pond Herons\, while the shallow edges are patrolled by Red-wattled Lapwings and graceful Pheasant-tailed and Bronze-winged Jacanas. The striking Oriental Darter can sometimes be seen drying its wings along the banks. In the surrounding trees\, birders may spot the dramatic Crested Honey Buzzard\, the colorful Indian Pitta during migration\, and the brilliant flashes of Chestnut-headed\, Green\, and Blue-tailed Bee-eaters. Woodland patches echo with the calls of Greater Flamebacks\, Racket-tailed Drongos\, and other drongos\, while smaller favorites like Tailorbirds\, Magpie Robins\, Red-vented Bulbuls\, and White-browed Bulbuls add constant movement and melody. Together\, these species make Poomala Dam not just a scenic retreat\, but a dynamic hotspot for bird lovers in central Kerala. \n \n \n \n \n Lesser Whistling Duck \n \n \n \n Pheasant-tailed Jacana \n \n \n \n Indian Pitta \n \n \n \n Little Egret \n \n \n \n Eastern Cattle - Egret \n \n \n \n Oriental Honey Buzzard \n \n \n \n Grey Heron \n \n \n \n Common Tailorbird \n \n \n \n Indian Pond Heron \n \n \n \n Greater Racket-tailed Drongo \n \n \n \n Chestnut-headed Bee-Eater \n \n \n \n Hoopoe \n \n \n \n Blue-tailed Bee-Eater \n \n \n \n Bronze-winged Jacana \n \n \n \n Black Drongo \n \n \n \n Oriental Magpie Robin \n \n \n \n Asian Green Bee-eater \n \n \n \n Red-vented Bulbul \n \n \n \n Oriental Darter \n \n \n \n Red-wattled Lapwing \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Summary of Walk \n \n \n \n At Poomala Dam in Thrissur\, Syam Sukumaran led ten participants through a lively and fulfilling birding session\, recording 44 species.
