Multi-college Bird Walk with Cre’active’ Trust

Highlights from the Event

A collaborative multi-college bird walk at the Uttra Pinakin River, Gauribidanur, organized with Cre’active’ Trust and led by Guruprasad KR, brought together students for an engaging morning of birding and learning. The riverine habitat supported a rich mix of waterbirds, with Grey Heron, Great and Intermediate Egrets, and Purple Heron seen along the banks, while Lesser Whistling-Ducks, Indian Spot-billed Ducks, and Eurasian Coots occupied the open water. River Terns cruised overhead, and multiple kingfishers—including Common and White-throated—added flashes of color along the water’s edge.

The surrounding scrub and fields were equally active, with Black Drongos, Asian Green Bee-eaters, and Paddyfield Pipits foraging, while Oriental Magpie-Robins, Common Ioras, and sunbirds animated the vegetation. Raptors such as Brahminy Kite, Black Kite, Oriental Honey-buzzard, and a notable Egyptian Vulture were observed soaring above. Common species like mynas, parakeets, peafowl, and doves rounded out the checklist, making for a diverse and well-rounded birding experience that also fostered collaboration and shared learning among participants.
