Common birds of Ekana Wetlands
Ekana Wetlands, located in Mastemau East of Ekana Stadium in Lucknow have documented an impressive list of more than 200+ birds, including a large population of Lesser Whistling-Ducks and Indian Spot-billed Ducks, alongside the elegant Pheasant-tailed Jacanas and Bronze-winged Jacanas gracefully navigating the aquatic vegetation. Raptors like Osprey, Black Kite and Shikra are observed overhead, while the melodious calls of Asian Koel and Common Hawk-Cuckoo resonate from the trees. The diverse sightings of egrets, herons, and ibises such as Little Egret, Indian Pond-Heron, Purple Heron, and Black-headed Ibis further emphasize the health of the wetland ecosystem, providing crucial foraging and roosting grounds for these water-dependent species.

Summary of Walk
Fourteen participants explored the rich wetland habitats of CG City Wetland, where marshes, open water, and surrounding vegetation support an impressive diversity of resident and migratory birds. The morning proved exceptionally productive, with participants recording an outstanding 55 bird species, reflecting the ecological importance of this thriving wetland ecosystem. Throughout the walk, participants enjoyed observing a wide variety of waterbirds, wetland specialists, and woodland birds while learning about the role of healthy wetlands in supporting biodiversity.
The standout highlights included beautiful sightings of the elusive Cinnamon Bittern and the charming Cotton Pygmy Goose, two species that generated considerable excitement among the group. Their appearances, along with numerous other wetland birds, made for a rewarding checklist and plenty of opportunities for photography and bird identification. The rich diversity of species, combined with enthusiastic participation and excellent birding conditions, made the CG City Wetland walk a memorable experience for everyone involved.
