Common birds of Baradari, Anasagar lake
Ana Sagar Lake transforms into a spectacular birding arena, especially when its waters host an impressive gathering of large waterbirds and elegant waders. The sight of massive pelicans—both Rosy and Dalmatian—gliding across the lake alongside Painted Storks creates a truly dramatic scene. Along the edges, Purple and Grey Herons stalk patiently, while Black-crowned Night Herons retreat into shaded corners, waiting for dusk. The wetlands are alive with activity as Eurasian Coots and Moorhens paddle through the water, and Indian Spot-billed Ducks move in calm groups. Adding to this richness, the striking Eurasian Spoonbill sweeps its bill through the shallows, while Great Egrets stand tall in quiet elegance.
Beyond the water, the surrounding landscape buzzes with smaller yet equally fascinating birds. Wire-tailed Swallows skim low over the lake, Little Swifts dart across the sky, and flashes of color come from Purple Sunbirds and Little Green Bee-eaters. Calls of Ashy Prinias and starlings fill the air, while Black Drongos and Black Kites dominate the skyline with their agile flight. The presence of species like the Grey-headed Swamphen and White-throated Kingfisher further adds to the diversity, making Ana Sagar not just a scenic spot but a vibrant ecosystem where every visit offers a new birding experience.
